There is no doubt that Surrey has some beautiful sights and interesting things to visit. Farnham is located less than 40 miles from London, which when you realise just how much countryside is in the local area is surprising! If you’re someone that has been home for weeks and is likely to be at home for a little longer, then you’d be forgiven for considering a new home that has plenty of nearby space to wander and enjoy. Things to Do in Farnham

Farnham has a small but perfectly formed town centre which should provide everything you need day to day, however, it is also very close to Guildford and Camberley if you’re looking for something else. There are lots of great education choices, a train station with direct links to London and plenty of pubs and restaurants when things are all back open again.

 

However, if it is open space and countryside that you’re looking for then Farnham most definitely won’t disappoint.

Bourne Wood

If you’re looking for stunning woodland to wander around then Bourne Wood is perfect. Popular with families and dog walkers it has a wonderful mixture of trees and walkways to explore. You also get impressive views over surrounding pine forests. You might even see a bit of the wood that looks familiar – it’s been the home of many, very famous film sets and TV shows!

Waverley Abbey

This English Heritage site is accessed via a pond-side walkway, a cattle field and a kissing gate, but it is well worth the 5 minutes of adventure to have a visit here. Located by the River Wey it was the very first monastery founded in Britain by the reforming Cistercian religious order. It has some amazing architecture and is a wonderful visit.

Alice Holt

Just a few minutes way in Bordon, Hampshire, Alice Holt Forest has an abundance of things to do. The forest makes an interesting walk around and on quieter days you might be lucky enough to see grazing deer or some of the hundreds of rabbits that call this part of the world home. There is also a child’s play park, Gruffalo Trail, beautiful sculptures, picnic areas and cycling trails. It’s also the home of Go Ape! if you’re looking for something a little more adventurous.

Basingstoke Canal

If you want to go a little further out, located just 15 minutes away is Basingstoke Canal. With some amazing canal walks, boat rides and picnic areas it’s a great location for a family day out. Located near a park and miniature railway, there’s plenty to see and do to keep everyone entertained.

Frensham Great Pond and Common

If you’re missing a trip to the beach, then Frensham Great Pond will definitely help. With 2 ponds located within close vicinity of each other, you’ll also find the pond surrounded by sand, so it is like being at the beach, especially on a beautifully sunny day. The area is home to several rare birds and you’re also likely to see a range of dragonfly species and gorgeous flowers. Want to stretch your legs? Look up some of the walking routes this area offers, they’re worth checking out.
