Whitstable; More Than Just Oysters

Whitstable might well be famous for its oysters, but that doesn’t mean it is all it offers up for those wanting to dine out. Whatever type of food you’re looking for if you’re in search of somewhere to enjoy with friends then you can be certain that this part of the Kent North coast will be able to cater to you.

We’ve talked before about our love of Whitstable and the things it offers, however, their choice of food is phenomenal. Here is a look at some of the places we love to visit with friends. As ever, we suggest contacting venues before you visit to check on social distancing and availability, but if you get the chance to visit these we know you won’t be disappointed.

The Best Oysters

If you’re looking to try the infamous Whitstable Oysters then Wheelers is a great choice. Instantly recognisable by its candy-floss inspired pink front, it has been open since 1856 and is popular with both locals and people visiting the area.

Seaside Fish and Chips

It would be a travesty to visit the seaside and not enjoy chips from the chip shop, and if you’re doing that you may as well splash out on some fish too! We recommend a visit to V C Jones, for their unique take on fish and chips. They cook everything in beef fat which is enough to tempt you through the door and when you try their food, you’ll be glad you were tempted in!

Dreamy Desserts

Small but perfectly formed, Sundae Sundae is the place to head if you’re looking for fantastic ice cream. The shop itself is nicely decorated with a range of sweets and fun memorabilia to shop from too. Grab a cone and take a stroll around Whitstable with friends, you’ll really enjoy it.

The Place To Socialise Without Food

If you’re looking for somewhere to spend time with friends but aren’t worried about having food then The Twelve Taps is worth a visit. Although they’re not open just yet so do keep an eye on their website, or take advantage of their beer deliveries if you’re local. When you are able to visit you’ll find a relaxed atmosphere and you can even take your dog along if you want. They do have plans to add food to their menu but for now, you’ll have to choose from their extensive selection of gins or craft beers.

Our Estate Agents Choice

We asked local estate agent Michael where his favourite place to eat with friends was and his initial answer was “a personal favourite is quite hard”, we pressed a little further and he committed to JoJo’s – a tapas bar and restaurant on Herne Bay Road. JoJo’s offer a really varied menu with some amazing tapas and Greek food choices – perfect for a sociable meal with friends.
